Update 1

To whom it concerns,

Hi. Sorry for posting this a couple of days after the Block Party. I've been busy trying to set-up for a fun year. Which, of course, I'm letting everyone in on. Yet, we have to get to the important matters first.

First, the Anime Club is no longer at UC215 like it says on the flier. Instead, it's right next door at UC214. So, it's not much of a change but I just wanted to clue everyone in. This way nobody will be lost next Tuesday. (Which will be our first club meeting of the new school year!)

Secondly, our club adviser (Ms.Coombs) is sadly leaving us this year. It was great while it lasted but all good things have to come to an end. So, with a good luck and a farewell, we part ways. Now, what does this mean for all the new people. Well, we are currently looking for a teacher who can be our new adviser. Without one, I'm afraid that we will no longer be considered a club. Yet, don't think too much of this. I'm in the middle of getting it taken care of.

Finally, on September 15th we will be holding a club election for the official club cabinet. Now, there's a reason why I'm not holding it next week. The reason is that I want to see how many people actually show up next week before we start anything important. This way I know how many I can expect to participate. Then again, if enough people show up I will hold it next week. So, if you want a position be ready at both times.

Anyways, enough of the serious stuff. Now, we'll get to the more interesting and entertaining stuff. Which is what the Anime Club is all about, right?

First, the prizes for the raffle winners will be given out at the next club meeting. Of course, I'm not going to give away any surprises so you'll just have to attend to see if you're the winner. Otherwise, you may miss out on one-of-three awesome prizes.

Secondly, next week I'm going to have a short discussion of upcoming anime conventions. I know there are some of you out there who would like to go. So, we'll be discussing ways we can attempt to raise funds for group tickets and what-not. We already have some ideas but we'll be happy to hear yours too.

Third, we're going to be talking upcoming school-wide activities that the Anime Club are going to be doing. Thanks to the CSI, we have to hold at least three activities per semester. So, why not make it fun when we do? So bring your creativity and we'll get some fun ideas rolling.

Finally, for those who turn up, we will be having a short introduction for each member, new and old. After all, we are a club and the point of the club is to find others who share similar interests. The fun of it is just a bonus.

Anyways, that's all for now. Any future updates will be posted on our blog ,like this one, and posted on the facebook page and e-mailed. Thanks for reading.

Regards,
Patrick Peterson

Anime Club Elections

Hey Everyone,

As some of you know, new CSI (Center for Student Involvement) regulations went into effect last semester, and each club needs to abide by them. The other officers and I don't have the time to devote to the club that CSI wants us to do. It's not fair to the members that the club get cut because we don't have the time to devote to it.

So we're holding elections! The elections will be for all four positions of the executive board (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer). Elections will take place at our NEXT MEETING on Tuesday.

ALL members (except last semester seniors—sorry!) who want to run should prepare to run for the office of President. The winner of the election will be President, the runner-up will be Vice President, third place will be Secretary and fourth place will be Treasurer.

The members will be part of the e-board effective right after their elections.

Before you think of running, be aware of CSI requirements on clubs and make sure you have the time to devote to them (if you don't, please don't run for office):
- All clubs must hold 3 events per semester, 1 must be community service. Events could be as simple as holding the regular club meeting in a more
public area. Community service could be manning the tables for an hour at the blood drive. You must be able to plan for the events at least 30 days in advance and meet with CSI

- You must meet REGULARLY with CSI to go over your events and budget.

- You must attend e-board meetings at the beginning of each semester.

- You must hand in paperwork on time.

- You must be able to work together in an e-board for the good of the club

After you're elected, you'll have to meet with CSI ASAP. I'm going to give them your names and e-mails so they know who you are once you're elected.

If you have any questions, feel free to reply here or e-mail me at nicolerodriguez@mail.adelphi.edu

Meeting Today is CANCELED

Hi Everyone,

Normally we would be having our first meeting today, but I doubt those of you who commute would want to stick around with the current weather conditions. If you don't commute, I'm sure you don't want to leave the comfort of your dorm room anyway.

So the meeting is canceled today. We'll have our first meeting next week, 2/10.

Club Roster

Hi Everyone!

I recently got this email:

"In order students to receive their Recognition Award, we are requiring every club/organization to submit their most current Active Membership Roster. This needs to be submitted electronically by Monday, November 17, 2008 by 12pm. If we do not receive your roster by this time, any student that listed your organization in the Recognition Award Packet will not receive credit and will lose their Award. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you."

If you can, send me your name, year and email address so I can create a new roster. I know a few of you came up to me about these awards, and I'd hate for you to not get them because you're not on the list.

If you know people who aren't on facebook or in the group on facebook or don't read the blog, please tell them to shoot me an email (nicolerodriguez@mail.adelphi.edu or animeclub@adelphi.edu) with their information.

Thanks!

Halloween!

I'll probably go over this at the meeting, but just in case some of you don't make it, I'll put it up here in the blog.

Halloween is Friday, and for those of you who are new to Adelphi, the residents of Garden City are pretty used to Adelphi kids running around and trick or treating! So don't lament, you're not too old for some free candy—just make sure to wear a costume!

So on Friday, I think it would be good to meet at Post Hall, perhaps around 6:00 p.m. And if a lot of people wish to meet at another time, I'll change it. So everyone can meet there and head out to go trick or treating :)

I don't know if I'll come (I might be assigned arduous task of candy distribution at my house), but I'm positive that some of the other officers are going to go, so look out for them!

Don't forget that Adelphi is having its own Halloween bash on Thursday!

I hope everyone has a fun—and safe—Halloween :)

ADV Films to Distribute Anime for Sentai Filmworks

ADV has finally found a new licensing partner: Sentai Filmworks.

ADV films, the largest anime company in North America, had recently been going through some tough times when their partnership with Sojitz, a Japanese licensing company, had ended. Since then, ADV has dropped several of its titles, such as Gurren Lagann and Welcome to the NHK! and handed them over to other companies such as Bandai and FUNimation.

Hopefully this new partnership will mark an end to the struggle they had been going through.

This news also reveals that ADV will be distributing the anime adaptation of the popular visual novel Clannad. Clannad is based on a game by Key, the creators of other famous visual-novels-made-into-anime such as Kanon and Air. The series was animated by Kyoto Animation, famous for their work in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star.

Through this partnership, ADV also acquired the rights to Koharu Biyori, Mahoromatic, Mahoromatic: Something More Beautiful, Tsukihime, Pet Shop of Horrors, and Jewel BEM Hunter Lime.
