There are a few new CSI (Center for Student Involvement) policies which greatly effect the club. I will have a member pointing this out to everyone at our meeting tomorrow (unfortunately I will not be able to attend), but I figure that having these up on our blog won't hurt.
1) Rules
CSI is really cracking down on certain things. We NEED to have 15 members or the club WILL be cut. I've found a couple of new ways to advertise, unfortunately I can't have them up in time for our second meeting, but perhaps I can have them up in time for the third. This includes posters. With the new polices in effect, it's simply impossible for me to get them up today. Hopefully with the new advertising efforts, we will gain members. That doesn't mean current members can't help out. Recruit! Keep the club alive.
2) Events
All clubs are REQUIRED to hold 3 events per semester (2 regular, 1 community service). My officers and I have already come up with events that the club can hold, and I will try to get in contact with other small clubs so we can collaborate on events and work together. However, I cannot plan events for the club on my own—I simply don't have the time. All members have to help with the event-planning process. If you have any ideas, please come to me, comment on this post, or email me. Events do not have to be big, so please come to me with any ideas you might have!
3) Club email
Pretty soon the club will have it's own email address. It will be AnimeClub@adelphi.edu, right now I can't access it, but I should be able to soon.
4) Budget
All clubs are receiving funds now. Do you have any ideas on what the anime club can use its budget on? Please contact me :)
I understand this may be frustrating to long-time members as the club has usually done its own thing in the past. Unfortunately we will not be able to continue doing that, so some things are going to have to change. I really need the members' cooperation on this one, and hopefully we can have a great year together in the process.

As you know, I'll be more than willing to help out with promoting the club. As for events, what did you have in mind? If you want to do a screening of some anime, I'll help out with that. Maybe we can show something on the big screen in the UC basement.
It's cool that we have a budget. I guess we could spend it on DVD's. If we get enough, we can use it to organize a trip somewhere. I'll let you know if I find out about any anime-related events going on in NYC. Also, there's a Japanese shopping center in NJ that might be a good idea for a trip.
Well I discussed a few things with Java and Dani at the meeting itself on Friday :) We talked about having a Masquerade, possibly having Java do a Drawing Workshop..
Screenings would probably be easy and simple for us to do though, and probably won't require us to use any of our budget (or have us go insane when it comes to planning) I'll see how much budget we get. It would be nice to organize a few trips.
The only thing we need to figure out is stuff for community service. I guess we could have simple fundraisers (ie charging for the masquerade and donating the money).
Thank you your help :)
One question... Can we use the budget to go to the anime event in December in NYC? That's would be good.
What event is that? :3
I'll have to see how much we get, and how much we're going to have to use for events (since we have to have them..). It may not be possible to get a bus (those are fairly expensive), or we can use the budget to get train tickets for a set number of members.
Once I find out the budget, I can answer this a bit better, but thank you for the suggestion :)
Hyuu~! JAVA-CHAN, THE TREASURER OF NOW EXISTENT FUNDS MAKES AN APPEARANCE~!
I believe Hoang Long means NYAF. ^^
Also, going back to the community service thing...Why not do that thing we came up with at that meeting? Why not have a collaborated art show/artist's alley with the art club or something? Then perhaps all the money gathered from that can go to some charity organization. ^^
Also, why not try the Brawl tournament in the spring? ^^
Ok so I'm gonna have to agree with Java on the charity thing the art show is a good idea i suggest trying to go in with the student art league on it since thats there area of expertise. as for the other events like big screening events we did that once a long time ago for the first apple seed it worked out really well the guy i would think to ask about that would be Wai Yung Chim he's the old vp from before I was made prez he runs a pretty good anime site and I think he has the hook ups for that kind of stuff hes on the facebook group or we can bug funimation for something movie wise ill talk to you more about that later nikki but anyways as for other events a cosplay contest would be a good idea or a Masquerade dance/rave/ball would be a good idea budget permitting. speaking of the budget some sugestions for that would be start up the clubs dvd collection although that's prob not all to necessary since between me jon and you guys theres prob more than enough in the library at the moment.you can start a manga library and apoint a member the librarian although this has problems with storage enless you can get a club room under earle which prob won't happen but maybe you can convince some one to give us a little space. as for cons there to expensive to go to but you can hold a dinner or maybe convince say a voice actor or animator to come visit the school it will draw a crowd and you can maybe get the art or theater dept involved. but yeah theres always the craziest of all ideas but it will prob never happen we could hold a con but that would be a lot of work and prob not be a good idea because of all the channels you would have to go through but I'm just putting it out there with all the other stuff i can think of at 4am
thanks for the suggestions Java and Chris :)
I'm just a little overwhelmed, they basically went "Hey we're changing shit and EVERYONE HAS TO DO THIS, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY" and I panicked. I don't want the club to be cut.
I think we'd be able to hold a con.. but this semester I would like to start out small, you know? I'm new to the event-planning process so I want to get used to this first.
I know the Brawl tournament was something we discussed at the meeting, hopefully shooting for spring would be a good idea.. and we could charge admission and donate the proceeds. We figured out that we have three possible Wiis with everything unlocked (2 are mine, one is Java's) and I'm sure we could find more..and use some of the budget to get used controllers at Gamestop.
I'm hoping this can work out. It's annoying, but we can do it.
I like the idea of a guest like a voice actor or animator coming in. Though, that may be a little hard to do.
I also talked with my sister about this and she gave me a few ideas too. One suggestion was a karaoke contest. I think that maybe each contestant should give a little donation to participate and all the money collected could be donated somewhere. She also said that perhaps we should hold the type of games like what is presented at conventions. Games like 'Anime Family Feud' and 'Anime Match Game' or something like that o.o.
If the first Appleseed movie was a big hit, maybe we should show the second one. I have it on Blu-Ray, so if we can somehow manage to get an HD screen to show it on, I'll bring my PS3 and it would look pretty sweet. I also have Paprika on Blu-Ray if you want to see people go "WTF!"
we showed it with consent from the film company and as a big event kind of deal to show something like that as an event there are proper channels that have to be gone through due to the amount of people who are going to show up
I like the Brawl tournament. Abt the karaoke contest, I like it too. But is it possible?
Brawl Tournaments and Karaoke contests are easy to set up and entirely possible to do...especially when you have a nerd like me who owns two Wiis and two copies of SSBB :)
